My New Normal

A bit of a random post but here it goes....

The hubs & I are trying to start a family so I went to the dr to talk to her about fertility and making sure I am trying to do whatever it is I need to do to put as in the best possibly situation to start a family. The dr decided to do blood work and out of everything that came back, my glucose levels are high and a cause for concern. My grandparents on my dad's side both died of diabetes but no one else in my family has issues. Therefore my new normal of eating has just become 100% Paleo/Diabetic to make sure I can control this without meds.

If you have any favorite recipes that you want to share please do! I am going off my Everyday Paleo cookbook, Nom Nom Paleo, and I am waiting for MG Paleo to become available.

So now for the weekend recap!

Lunch on Friday before I hit the road to head north to Georgetown to visit my parents.
A smidge charred salmon burger atop field greens and half a cup of mixed veggies.

Dinner at my parent's place....YUM!
Salmon filet (yes I love salmon) topped with poblano pesto with four sauteed shrimp and a salad.

Berry Springs Park...About 10 minutes away from my parent's place. Ran the trails/paths until I ran out of them to follow.

Saturday night was spent celebrating one of my friend's wedding in Frisco. Such a great couple and a beautiful bride!

Lunch today - Chef salad with compliant dressing that I found at Monument Market in Georgetown over the weekend.
Needless to say you will now be seeing more food porn as my meals will have to be more creative than what I am used to. And if you are so inclined.....keep Dave & I in your prayers for a Baby H soon!

Whole30 Day 4'ish

Sunday was day 4 of my second Whole30. I got up and ran a slow 3.4 miles and then had to mow the yard since we were becoming "those neighbors". Normally Dave does it but he is out working so I get to pick up the slack!

Before house chores commences I had potato hash, kale, and scrambled eggs. I didn't make it to church (I know...not good) but I mowed the yard, completely cleaned out the fish tank, and went to the range with my father in law to get some rounds in with one of his rifles I am using on my hunt in two weeks.

I didn't take pictures of my dinner because, honestly, I started eating it before I remembered....I was that hungry. I took ground Beef/Brisket and browned it, threw in onion, potatoes, bell pepper, and cabbage. It was amazing. I ate about two thirds of it last night! Planning on finishing it off today for lunch round 2. Round 1 lunch was some soup but I realized there were a lot of bones it from the Cornish game hen so it ended up going down the sink. Breakfast was apple sauce and nuts because I had a doctor appointment.

In November they had a stroke scan bus at work so I got checked out. The results were that I had an abnormal test results for atrial fibrillation. Well after an EKG this morning at a new general practitioner, I can safely say that it was a false positive! My resting heart rate is right around 46 which he says is good and he didn't see any signs of fibrillation. YAY!!

(Wo)Man Down!

Well even though my doctor appointment on Monday morning went what I would consider well, my body has been telling me otherwise. I rested up again on Monday but this week started my Alice Women's Kickball League that my friend Inez pulled me onto. We have games three days a week and practice in between. I didn't make practice last week because I didn't feel well and fell asleep at 7 PM. So the game last night was my first time playing kickball in years.

All day Tuesday it seemed as though my hip flexer had been acting up. I am not sure if it was from sitting in my truck for the quick trip to Houston over the weekend coupled with the trip to Corpus on Monday for my doctor appointment but my hip has been killing me. And playing kickball last night didn't help.

Soooooooo I think I am going to take a break from running this week and rest up. Gonna try to get in four or five miles on Saturday with the girls.

The Mr comes home after a three week hitch so a little R & R and live country music will be in order anyway! Our favorite go to place is always Brewster Street Ice House.....and with The Departed playing tonight and Dirty River Boys playing Sunday I would say we are going to have an awesome weekend!

Monday Morning Dr Appointment

So since I started running more regularly about a year ago I haven't had very many injuries. I was able to ward off a stress fracture on the outside of my left foot by laying low on running and wearing a big black boot for about three weeks. I also got new shoes so I am sure that helped.

Lately, however, my right shin has been killing me. I began wearing a calf compression sleeve about a month or so ago which was helping but the pain is still there. I researched which sleeves to buy and in the process realized they are quite expensive. So I settled on buying one from my local Academy before I spent $45+ on one. (Plus I hadn't really received any first hand recommendations for one)

Hence why I spent the morning at the South Texas Bone & Joint clinic in Corpus Christi. They took two x-rays of my right tibia which confirmed I do not have any stress fractures (thank goodness). The doctor said it isn't shin splints because of the location of my pain. He actually couldn't really tell me what was wrong. But I will take no news as good news at this point. His remedy is to take an anti inflammatory daily and if it is still bothering me in a month or so to come back.
